Film is an artifice, yet somehow, through a series of rapidly projected images, it is able to elicit genuine emotion. I know, because by the end of this film I was on the brink of tears with a dumb, love-struck smile wrapped across the length of my face. This is the paradox of film—one that beautifully illustrates the nature of “Her.” How can something we know in our minds to be false make us feel something as real as human emotion? “Her” is a film grounded in beautiful paradoxes.

A couple weeks after the partial shutdown of the United States’ government, the American public’s confidence in our two-party system is at an all-time low. Parks are closed, tax audits have ceased, food inspections are slowed and our nation is inching closer to defaulting on our obligations. If this picture sounds bleak, it should. While this fight may have started because a few principled house Republicans decided to put their foot down on President Barack Obama’s health care law, it has transformed into a highest-of-stakes game of chicken.

Police are still searching for the perpetrators of an armed robbery Sunday night on West Doty Street after a K-9 search of the surrounding area proved unsuccessful, according to an incident report.
