Wisconsin outside linebacker Joe Schobert had to be disappointed when his name wasn’t called through the first two days of the 2016 NFL draft, but he didn’t have to wait long on Saturday to hear it. The Cleveland Browns kicked off the fourth round by taking him 99th overall.

At least two Wisconsin Badgers were taken in each of the last eight NFL drafts, but that trend of success could end in 2016. Paul Chryst’s 10-win 2015 team had a number of players declare for the NFL, but only one of them is a lock to hear his named called on draft weekend.

When NFL hopefuls are competing and trying to make themselves more appealing to pro scouts, coaches and executives, they have to find every way possible to contribute on the field and offer value to a team. At the Wisconsin Pro Day Wednesday at the McClain Center, many of the Badgers headed for the draft did just that.

SAN DIEGO, Calif. - Back-to-back-to-back. It’s not a new Drake diss track, but it did come from a Wisconsin defender who was charged up. Redshirt sophomore linebacker Jack Cichy set records as he sacked redshirt senior USC quarterback Cody Kessler on three straight plays in the Badgers’ 23-21 win over the Trojans in the Holiday Bowl Wednesday.

SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The Badgers’ 23-21 win over USC in the Holiday Bowl Wednesday was a great send-off for the UW seniors, as they were able to ride off into the San Diego sunset on top. However, the victory might have been even more important for the future of the team, as the next generation of Wisconsin leaders made their presence felt.

Minneapolis, Minn. - When a running back has a big performance, some might say that he was “in the zone.” For redshirt junior Dare Ogunbowale and redshirt freshman Taiwan Deal, that expression was much more literal.

Senior outside linebacker Joe Schobert may lead the Wisconsin defense in sacks and quarterback hits, but Vince Biegel might be even more valuable for defensive coordinator Dave Aranda.

When the Badgers traveled to Evanston, Illinois 13 months ago, Northwestern’s offense ran all over Dave Aranda’s defense en route to a 20-14 win. The Wisconsin defensive coordinator wants to make sure this Saturday won’t be the same.

In some games, a team can rely on one player or one unit to carry them to victory. A running back or an impenetrable defense can win a lot of games on their own in college football. For the Wisconsin Badgers, they needed all three phases to beat the Maryland Terrapins 31-24 Saturday in College Park, MD.
(11/07/15 3:23am)
When redshirt junior running back Corey Clement took the field for the Badgers just two minutes into last Saturday’s game against Rutgers, the home crowd let him have it. After he scored his first touchdown of the season just under five minutes later, he let the crowd have it back, tossing the ball in the air and earning an excessive celebration penalty.

There’s a reason football players and coaches at every level refer to third down as the “money down.” It’s the down that keeps drives and games alive and gives defenses the opportunity to get off of the field.

Football is a team sport, but sometimes one player can have a game-changing impact on their team. As much as redshirt senior wide receiver Alex Erickson has carried the Wisconsin (3-1 Big Ten, 6-2 overall) passing game, Rutgers’ (1-3, 3-4) offense has really lived and died through the hands of their senior wide receiver, when he’s been able to play.

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - “It’s the next man up.” This quote has been uttered by head coach Paul Chryst, offensive coordinator Joe Rudolph, redshirt senior quarterback Joel Stave and on Saturday night in Champaign, Ill., redshirt junior quarterback Bart Houston was the next man up to say the phrase.
(10/15/15 6:11am)
This Sunday will mark the 12-year anniversary of the last time Purdue (0-2 Big Ten, 1-5 overall) beat Wisconsin (1-1, 4-2). It isn’t easy to find many people who think that streak will end when the two teams play Saturday.

When the Badgers pour out of the tunnel on game day, they’re met by a mix of cheers from the tens of thousands of fans who fill the stadium and the blare of the band leading them in with the school song. It’s the first song that hits the players, gets them motivated to take the field and unifies them as Wisconsin football players.
