Two weeks ago, I kicked off the list with the delicious dive bar brews of the Malt House at No. 10, following Cooper’s Tavern’s rustic atmosphere and conservative tap list, which filled the No. 9 spot. The next bar on the list offers a similar modern exposed-brick and wood interior design, with two full bars and plenty of American craft beers to choose from.

Win and advance. That is the mentality the No. 2 seeded and No. 6 Wisconsin women’s hockey team needed to possess in its WCHA first-round matchup with St. Cloud State this past weekend, and it did just that. The Badgers took both contests by scores of 5-0 and 4-1. The victories extended Wisconsin’s winning streak against the Huskies to 16 games.

Whatever hope was born out of Wisconsin’s wins over California and Nebraska-Omaha last week was lost over forty minutes of ugly basketball Saturday in Milwaukee. Playing without junior forward Mike Bruesewitz, the Badgers (6-4) lacked energy and poise from the opening tip, committing 10 first-half turnovers en route to a 34-20 halftime deficit. Ultimately, that deficit was simply too much to overcome as UW fell to Marquette 60-50.

The United Nations Population Fund declared family planning a universal right for the very first time in its annual report last week. To avoid the usual mad free-for-all that generally follows any discussion of reproductive rights, it is important to note the UN does not include abortion among methods of birth control.

It’s officially midterms, the second busiest part of the semester. The extra hours of studying have been wearing me down so much, I’ve neglected one of my most sacred October traditions: I still haven’t figured out what I’m going to be for Halloween this year.

Before I explain my point, I want to tell you all a story. It’s about a six-year-old that loved going to summer camp (as most Jewish children do). He loved the games of dodgeball, the bug juice and the climbing wall. But what he loved most of all was his counselors. His counselors were so knowledgeable and funny and could always stop a fight between kindergarteners. This child loved his counselors so much that he went back to camp the next summer, and the next and the next until he turned 16. The next two summers he got jobs bagging groceries (because that is what teenagers do).

Gut check time is coming earlier than normal this year for the Wisconsin football team (1-1 overall).
