Following a revolution like the Arab spring is difficult. The major
conflicts, from a media coverage perspective, seem to be coming in
large waves. Tunisia gave birth to the revolution, whose influence
made its way toward Egypt and the ousting of President Hosni
Mubarak. The global conversation then switched over to the pending
conflict in Yemen for only a brief time before eventually switching
over to Libya. The recent protests in Syria, though similar in
spirit to other mid-size revolts, are actually a game-changer that
initiates a whole new chapter in the Arab Spring.

There isn't a better student organization capable of annoying
students through constant reminders of social quandaries and group
objectives than WISPIRG. The Wisconsin Student Public Interest
Research Group's passion for lobbying government through grassroots
campaigning makes its primarily ""green"" mission well-known across
the UW-Madison campus. And while I could do without the little red
flyer and signature clipboard being thrown in my face every time I
stroll through Library Mall, I can't deny that the stream of
information provided to students through WISPIRG makes it a
valuable resource on campus.

Democratic gubernatorial nominee Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett's new
ad claims his Republican opponent, Milwaukee County Executive Scott
Walker, is against stem cell research, an allegation the Walker
campaign called ""an outright lie.""

Last week, as local sophomore Timothy McFadden eagerly waited in
front of his television set for the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards,
something magical happened. Sitting with a box of Cheez-Its and a
lukewarm Doctor Pepper, Timothy was so emotionally stirred by the
groundbreaking vocal performances of Justin Bieber and Usher, that
he made a personal pledge to be ""just like them"" some day.
Timothy's personal realization that he was bound for musical
stardom occurred just as Bieber (16), surrounded by 13-year-old
male background dancers, sang his most well known lyrics ""Like
baby, baby, baby ohh"" for the 36th time.

This just in—people drink a lot in Wisconsin. Over the last few
months, the State Council on Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse has been
examining ways to change Wisconsin's alcohol-based culture. This
shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone, especially college students
in Madison. Although not all students on campus come from small
Wisconsin towns that rely solely on alcohol for weekend
entertainment, most of us drank before coming to school and were
more than ready to continue the habit once we arrived in Madison,
Wisconsin.

inspira a viajar.

The results are in. In the elections for the Associated Students
of Madison (ASM) Student Council that closed Wednesday, MPOWER
lost, and so did Rec Sports' plan for the Nat. The best part of the
election? The record turnout of 34.5 percent of the student body.
Such high turnout is unprecedented. True, 65.5 percent of the
student body didn't have an excuse not to vote—the election was
online, took two minutes, offered information on the candidates and
about the ballot and was open for three days. Cheers to those of us
who managed to find two minutes over three days to vote for fellow
students who allocate $38 million in our own student segregated
fees.

Something must have clicked in the minds of Frightened Rabbit
over the last two years, because their latest album, The Winter
of Mixed Drinks, is one wrecking ball of a challenge compared
to their previous two LPs. Only traces of their immature but always
entertaining witticisms of old (""You're the shit, and I'm knee
deep in it,"" ""You must be a masochist to love a modern leper on
his last leg,"" etc.) remain, which always kept listeners singing
along in amusement as their traditional songwriting prevented
anyone from getting lost. Gone are the days of the Scottish group
sitting in a bar drinking bourbon too expensive for their own good
and stretching ironically affecting lyrics every which way as they
stand on the sturdy legs of their natural melodic sensibilities.
They are now drowning themselves in a bottle of cheap whiskey while
wallowing in an undercurrent of self-pity, trying to fight the urge
to extinguish hope. But nobody should be surprised that they pull
it off.

One of my favorite professors here likes to talk about how, in
international politics, style is substance. He says that when
global leaders interact, their strategies and appearances can be
just as important as what they actually achieve.

it does not affect their stance on the creation of a new abortion

Members of the Joint Finance Committee have their work cut out

executive budget, which now must deal with a deficit likely more
than $6 billion.
