There are plenty of things to be concerned about being a student
at UW-Madison. Outrageous tuition hike proposals, lack of
affordable housing and attacks on student services by intolerant
ideologues are all threats to our ability at UW-Madison to get a
quality, affordable education. That's why I urge you to support
REACH candidates (listed at http://www.reachuw.org) for the
upcoming ASM elections.

The overbearing nature of my illness makes it impossible to
concentrate on anything besides the incessant throbbing in my head.
The excruciating soreness feels like a dagger puncturing my throat,
and my body roasts like a miserable, self-sufficient sauna.

The Bush White House released its $2.13 trillion budget Tuesday.
President Bush's plan weakens America's public infrastructure while
further bloating corporate welfare payouts. Bush's budget sends the
government into the red for the first time in four years, with a
$106 billion deficit this year alone. The White House wants you to
believe that Sept. 11 is the cause of the budget shortfall, but the
real culprit is Republican tax cuts totaling $501 billion dollars.
The vast majority of these tax benefits will singularly profit
corporations and upper-income families.

I was a little surprised to read 'UW Prepares to Battle a
Legend' in Friday's Daily Cardinal. According to Andy Benlohr, a
win for the Badgers at Penn State on Saturday could 'jump start
their run at another Rose Bowl.' Really? I figured that with two
losses, UW-Madison is out of the National Championship game. Maybe
someone should let the Cardinal Sports staff know that there is a
BCS system in place now and that with the rotation, the Rose Bowl
is the National Championship game this year. It's not the
traditional Big Ten/Pac 10 matchup. I can understand the average
fan/student not knowing this, but for sportswriters, it's
inexcusable.

What can I say? I'm an idealist. Too often in life we witness
great transgressions and instead of standing up and saying 'That's
not right,' we simply continue on our way.
