After the Badgers (1-7 Big Ten, 6-12 overall) lost to Minnesota in their last Big Ten outing, the team remained excited about the future. Despite falling to a tough Gopher group, Wisconsin thought it had found something that takes many teams and organizations weeks or seasons to find: chemistry. Unfortunately for the Badgers, this chemistry was short lived, as the team fell short to Nebraska (6-3, 11-2) in their latest recent comeback attempt, losing 75-62 Wednesday night.

Same song, third verse. For the third time in the last four games, the Badgers (1-6 Big Ten, 6-12 overall) have found themselves down by a significant margin entering the fourth quarter. Again, despite their opponents holding sizable leads, the Badgers found a way to fight back and give themselves a chance at the end, only to come up a little short. Against Minnesota (5-3, 13-6), the Badgers were trailing by 20 entering the fourth, and despite cutting the lead to within 10, UW ultimately lost 84-77 Saturday at the Kohl Center.

Following a tough, hard-fought loss against Michigan State last Saturday, the Badgers (1-2 Big Ten, 5-8 overall) looked to climb back over .500 in the Big Ten standings. Against Rutgers (2-1,11-4), however, the Badgers lacked the necessary ball movement and offensive drive to accomplish that goal. Instead, the Badgers’ poor shooting and inadequate finish ultimately lead to a 61-41 loss in New Jersey Thursday.

Throughout the Badgers’ (2-4 Big Ten, 6-10 overall) season, when the team finds itself trailing, it usually finds a way to wage a tenacious and heartfelt effort to climb its way back into games. However, despite Wisconsin’s frequent comeback attempts, it often comes up just short. The Badgers’ game against Illinois (1-5, 9-9,) Sunday, their sixth Big Ten matchup of the year, was a microcosm of this season-long trend, as they fought their way back into the contest but ultimately lost 71-65.

The Badgers (3-3) expanded on a positive 1-1 showing in a pair of extremely close games on their road trip to San Diego last weekend, pulling out a gritty 64-51 win over Wake Forest (5-2) Wednesday in the Big Ten/ACC challenge.

After the Badgers (2-2) dropped two games in a row, head coach Bobbie Kelsey needed her players to step up and show improvement going into the SDSU Thanksgiving Tournament in San Diego, Calif. Fortunately, the Badgers responded by correcting both short-term mistakes and long-term tendencies, ultimately leading to a hard-fought 54-52 win against Delaware (2-2) Friday.

In 2012, the Badgers’ defense was 15th in the nation in yards per game. In 2013 it was seventh and in 2014, the Badgers finished the year ranked fourth overall. This season, the Badgers defensive continues to prove nearly impenetrable.

Coming into the 2015-’16 season, Drake University (2-0) was projected to finish second in the Missouri Valley Conference. Not only did they return four starters, but they have the preseason conference player of the year, sophomore forward Lizzy Wendell, who averaged 21.8 points per game last season. Unfortunately for the Badgers (1-1), Drake’s experience and star power proved too much for UW to handle, as they lost for the first time this season, 89-70, Wednesday night.

Even before the regular season has started, head coach Bobbie Kelsey has made it clear she thinks this year’s team can be great. Kelsey has high hopes for her veteran group and believes her team can make the NCAA tournament, a feat that Wisconsin women’s basketball has not accomplished since the 2009-’10 season. Even though the tournament is a while down the road, Kelsey knows that the journey has already begun in their exhibition games.

In a season plagued with injuries, the Badgers seemingly suffered their worst loss with the announcement that highly touted starting junior running back Corey Clement would miss significant time after surgery to repair a lingering sports hernia injury. To compound the damage, redshirt freshman running back Taiwan Deal suffered an ankle injury in UW’s comeback win at Nebraska.
