Playing video games is not something I do often. Instead, I'm
one of those girls who will spend a weekend afternoon watching my
brother or my guy friends freak out over the score of an Xbox
basketball game. I'll admit it, it's fun to watch.

I have never played for a team that won a conference title. That
is one dream many ball players have, but few are able to actually
accomplish.

Intramural basketball started for me on Sunday, the time of year
when college-aged burn-outs try to prove they still have some sort
of athletic talent. Dusting off my basketball shoes was the first
step, followed by bundling up and fighting the below-zero
temperature on my walk over to the SERF.

Every time my boyfriend gets his hands on the TV remote, I
already know what he is going to change the channel to: ESPN. Well,
it's either that or the weather channel. Don't ask. I seriously
don't know what he finds so interesting about storm patterns, not
that there is anything wrong with that.

Over the course of my childhood, I attended quite a few
Milwaukee Bucks games. I don't remember them ever being a top
contender in the NBA, but even if the Bucks were a traditional
juggernaut, I would still probably start thumb wars with myself
rather than watch the game.

I can't even imagine what it would be like to be the offspring
of a national icon such as Michael Jordan. The amount of pressure
put on Jeff Jordan, a freshman basketball player for Illinois, must
be overwhelming, since many fans expect him to play like his
father.

Every time my extended family gets together for the holidays,
basketball and football are the two main topics of conversation.
Thanksgiving was a happy time this year, mostly because the Green
Bay Packers only had one loss on the season and basketball was just
starting up.

Believe it or not, I not only love to talk about basketball, but
I also love to play it. Basketball runs in my blood. I am the third
generation of the Crowns family that has both played and coached
basketball, and by being surrounded by this sport all my life, I
have grown to love the game more and more. However, there is one
aspect about this wonderful game that aggravates me: basketball
politics.

In her press conference Monday afternoon, Wisconsin women's
basketball coach Lisa Stone said it was unfortunate that the
Pepperdine Tournament in California had to be cancelled because of
wildfires, but she believes her team will be ready to travel to
Virginia Friday to compete in the ACC-Big Ten Challenge.

The No. 25 Wisconsin women's basketball team (1-1 overall) lost
its first game of the season to Marquette 67-53 Saturday afternoon
at the Bradley Center in Milwaukee. The game was played out in
front of 4,327 fans, a record crowd for the Marquette women's
basketball program.

College sports are full of upsets, heartbreaks, miracles and
dreams come true. Even though exhibition games don't actually
count,"" two Big Ten teams were upset by Division II teams. But the
question remains, what should people make of these results?
(11/07/07 6:00am)
Most coaches have to worry about breaking in new players early
in the season. Lucky for Wisconsin head coach Lisa Stone, her team
did not graduate any seniors.

The Wisconsin women's soccer team (2-8-0 Big Ten, 6-11-1
overall) went scoreless on the road against Big Ten foe
Northwestern Friday night in its 3-0 loss. Because of this loss,
the Badgers did not have a strong enough record to qualify for
postseason play.
(11/01/07 6:00am)
The Wisconsin women's soccer team will be traveling to
Northwestern Friday night, playing in what may be their last game
of the 2007 season.
(10/31/07 6:00am)
When Wisconsin head coach Lisa Stone looks down her bench this
season, she will have the comfort of knowing that all of her
players will be back from last year, along with the addition of a
couple of strong rookies. Not only did the Wisconsin women's
basketball team not graduate any players, experienced senior guards
Jolene Anderson and Janese Banks will be the returning captains on
the squad.
(10/29/07 6:00am)
Wisconsin's 1-0 loss on Senior Day Sunday to Minnesota at the
McClimon Soccer Complex left the Badgers hanging their heads for
two reasons. The six seniors in cardinal and white not only lost
their last game in front of their home crowd, but the defeat also
meant the loss of Wisconsin's control of gaining entry into the Big
Ten Tournament.
(10/25/07 6:00am)
