Playing on the offensive line might be the least glamorous position in all of football. You don’t score touchdowns like receivers and running backs, you don’t get tackles like linebackers and defensive linemen.

Lambeau Field is one entry on a short list of venues every sports fan should watch a game at before they die, preceded only by Wrigley Field and Fenway Park. It’s a bucket list item for rivals and nearly a place of worship for Packers fans, but for the people living in Green Bay, it’s an integral part of the community.

After practice Thursday afternoon, it was announced that senior quarterback Bart Houston will start the season opener against LSU at Lambeau Field.

For many of you incoming freshmen, going to Camp Randall on September 10 will be your first taste of Badger football, at least in person. However, even for seniors like me, this season feels new, because for the first time, there will be a starting quarterback other than Joel Stave.

Next season, for the first time since 2011, Wisconsin will be hosting a Big Ten team under the lights at Camp Randall. However, they won’t just be hosting one conference night game. In the words of Ernie Banks “Let’s play two.” In October 2016, the Badgers will face both Ohio State and Nebraska in primetime matchups.

Wisconsin basketball fans have been blessed with phenomenal levels of consistency throughout the past two decades. The team hasn’t missed the tournament since 1998, and it hasn’t finished lower than fourth in the Big Ten since 2001 before Bo Ryan took over.

The dust has settled and the bracket is out (officially this time, none of that leaked nonsense), and the Big Ten has seven teams in the tourney spanning three of the four brackets.

Editor’s Note: In advance of Wisconsin kicking off its 2016 spring practice schedule Saturday at Camp Randall Stadium, The Daily Cardinal’s football preview package takes a look at the Badgers' positional battles and players to watch. The defense overview can be found here, and the special teams overview here.

A couple weeks into the season, if you would’ve told me the Wisconsin basketball team would be in the hunt to make the NCAA Tournament, I would’ve thought you were crazy. Yet, here we are in early February and the Badgers are starting to come up in bubble talks.

When head coach Paul Chryst and new defensive coordinator Justin Wilcox took the stage Monday afternoon at the Kohl Center, the word “fit” was used about a dozen times in the 15-minute press conference. It was made perfectly clear that Wilcox was the best person to fill in the gap left by former defensive coordinator Dave Aranda.

Often lost in the craziness of all the bowl games and national title talks is just how interesting the matchups can be. Historical powerhouses that rarely see each other get a chance to face off, and the Holiday Bowl between Wisconsin (6-2 Big Ten, 9-3 overall) and USC (5-4 Pac-12, 8-5 overall) is a prime showcase.

The last week of the regular season is here, and with that comes Rivalry Week, when powerhouses like Ohio State and Michigan, or Alabama and Auburn collide. Lost in the shuffle, however, is a fierce rivalry with one of the most interesting traditions in college football: Wisconsin (5-2 Big Ten, 8-3 overall) versus Minnesota (2-5, 5-6) in the Battle for the Axe.
(11/21/15 11:40pm)
The Wisconsin student section looked bad, as they pelted the cheerleaders with snowballs, but the Badgers (5-2 Big Ten, 8-3 overall) on the field didn’t look much better, losing to the No. 20 Northwestern Wildcats (5-2, 9-2) 13-7.

Ever since his return last Saturday, junior running back Corey Clement has been the talk of the town. When the Badgers (4-1 Big Ten, 7-2 overall) head to Maryland to face the Terrapins (0-4, 2-6), the focus of the fans, coaches and other teams will be on Wisconsin’s backfield.
(10/31/15 8:05pm)
The rain may have kept away the fans, but it didn’t keep away the Badgers (4-1 Big Ten, 7-2 overall) offense as they rolled over Rutgers (1-4, 3-5) 48-10.

When people think of the Big Ten, the first image that comes to mind is usually three yards and a cloud of dust, a byproduct of ground-and-pound running offenses. However, throughout the NFL in any given week there are three to seven former Big Ten quarterbacks starting, ranging some of the best in the league (Tom Brady, Drew Brees) to the worst (Kirk Cousins, Brian Hoyer).

After a pair of close wins against Iowa and Nebraska, Wisconsin (2-1 Big Ten, 5-2 overall) was able to pull away late against Purdue, giving the Badgers some momentum moving into this week’s matchup against Illinois (1-1, 4-2), who is coming off a bye week.
(10/17/15 7:00pm)
Many of the Badger faithful expected Wisconsin (2-1 Big Ten, 5-2 overall) to roll over a weak Purdue team (0-3, 1-6). While it wasn’t as lopsided as expected in the beginning, UW defeated the Boilermakers by a respectable 24-7 score.

LINCOLN, Neb. — Since Nebraska joined the Big Ten in 2011, the Huskers and Badgers have had a number of high-stakes contests that have led to a budding rivalry between Big Ten powers, and this week’s battle for the Freedom Trophy was no different. It was still anybody’s ball game late in the fourth as momentum swung back and forth, but eventually it settled with Wisconsin (1-1 Big Ten, 4-2 overall) defeating Nebraska (0-2, 2-4) 23-21.
