British pop rock band Bastille released their fourth studio album Give Me the Future on Feb. 4. The new album, somewhat similar thematically to Doom Days, deals with the idea of escapism, the future and the question of what is real and what is fake. Executive produced by OneRepublic frontman Ryan Tedder, the overall sound of the album could be described as futuristic synth-pop.

It’s been a busy month for Cordae. He released his sophomore album, From a Bird’s Eye View, on Jan. 14, an ambitious 14-track project with several high-profile features, such as Freddie Gibbs and Lil Wayne. It’s a solid record that’s fairly reminiscent of his first album, with an emphasis on production that still lets him display his flow. But Cordae’s most impressive musical endeavor of the month came two days prior, when he appeared on Power 106 FM in Los Angeles to freestyle.

Despite my vegetarianism and general disdain for fishing in real life, I’ve somehow always been in love with the feeling of reeling in a virtual fish in a game. Not in those rugged, story-absent games like Big Bass Fishing, but through classic cozier games in the vein of Stardew Valley, Animal Crossing or Minecraft. Naturally, then, I was thrilled when Bunnyhug Studios announced Moonglow Bay, a game that finally takes the fishing theme of older games and makes it palatable for people like me, who wouldn’t step within 6 feet of a fishing rod in real life.

James the Magician gazed out into the sluggish crowd for approval in his bright green hat with a red feather, gray vest meant for a high school dance, polka dot button up and cargo shorts with too many pockets. I was immersed in his dramatic — and sensual — ring-tossing trick choreographed to “Run me like a river” by Bishop Briggs, which seemed out of place for the half empty Bur Oak bar.

Lido Pimienta was an ethereal opener for an ethereal night. The Colombian-Canadian singer shocked the crowd when she entered the stage in an immaculate rainbow and metallic flowy dress that glowed against the stage lights. She further shocked the crowd when she opened her mouth and out tumbled her beautiful, almost angelic voice.

Fall seems like the perfect time to cozy up and watch a comforting, nostalgic movie from your childhood. “The Parent Trap” was always one of those movies, and I think it has been for a lot of people who fall in that weird age gap between Millennials and Gen Z.

Denis Villeneuve released “Dune” (2021) into a dizzying sandstorm of expectations. The star-studded cast promised recognizable, idolized personalities, such as Timotheé Chalamet and Zendaya. Author Frank Herbert established the franchise decades ago and posthumously left Villeneuve a dedicated, literary fanbase. Commentators, and the director himself, urged audiences to see the film in theaters, lest its cinematic artistry go unappreciated.

Coldplay released Music of the Spheres, their ninth studio album and their second in about two years, on Friday, Oct. 15, 2021. As a massive Coldplay fan, I had been looking forward to the release of the album since it was first announced in the summer. I also hoped to give it the same treatment I gave Everyday Life last year, when I made an attempt to revisit the album one year on.
