Throughout the fall 2022 semester, over 83,000 students across all University of Wisconsin System schools were invited to participate in a survey regarding the state of civil dialogue on their campuses. The survey received more than 10,500 responses gauging students’ comfort with expressing their opinions in academic settings as well as their receptiveness to classmates. The results were reported by UW Systems President Jay O. Rothman on Wednesday, including the data analyzed in relation to factors like political affiliation, gender identity and race.

Over the course of the fall semester, 22 teachers from 12 different countries across Eastern Europe and Central Asia honed their skills at the School of Education as part of the Fulbright Teaching Excellence and Achievement (Fulbright TEA) program. The educators were part of the Fulbright TEA Media Literacy Cohort, which aims to help teachers develop and promote media literacy skills in their communities back home.

The La Follette School of Public Affairs plans to move to the iconic University of Wisconsin-Madison building, Music Hall. Benjamin Jealous spoke to members of the University of Wisconsin-Madison community at the Memorial Union as the keynote speaker for its Martin Luther King Jr., Symposium. The MLK Symposium, named after the civil rights leader who spoke in the very same hall in the 1960s, is held annually and features prominent Black individuals who have in some way advanced King Jr.’s fight. Past speakers include astronaut Mae Jemison and journalist Nikole Hannah-Brown.
