If you take a walk up East Gilman Street or North Pinckney Street, you have surely taken note that most of the houses you pass have greater historic character and continuity than some of Madison’s other downtown neighborhoods. The city’s decision to make the Mansion Hill neighborhood a locally designated historic district in the 1970s is the key reason why the neighborhood today has the highest concentration of historically significant residences in the city.

Valentine’s Day is almost upon us. (Friday, FYI). As you may have heard, Camp Randall will hold spring commencement this year. In previous years, commencement was held at the Kohl Center over the course of an entire weekend. The ceremonies were broken up by schools and colleges into four ceremonies, with Letters and Science on Sunday, and other schools Saturday. The switch to Camp Randall means all 6,000 spring graduates will sit on one field to experience, for the first time in history, a communal sense of Badger pride, all together, everyone, rain or shine.
