If you don’t know already, Apple has a new iOS 12 update called Screen Time that records the amount of time someone spends on any app. Not only does it record the amount of time in each app, it tracks how many times the user picks up or unlocks their phone in a response to their notifications. To say the least, the numbers I received were alarming.

Log on. Open email. Click Chrome. Search “LinkedIn.” Update profile. See 14 connections get 14 amazing jobs. Congratulate them all. Update profile again. Check email. No reply from recruiter, just spam from Liquid… again. Go back to LinkedIn. Read article on how the world of business is going. New tab. Search “Handshake.” Look for jobs. Apply to anything. Get stressed out. Repeat.

Being a kid, the world is magical, everything around us is mesmerizing, our imagination transforming the ordinary into the extraordinary. The holidays especially brought this out. Whether it was the joy of counting down from 10 at midnight for the New Year, exchanging Valentines with your entire class or watching the fireworks in awe on the Fourth of July, all were magical experiences.

As a frequent watcher of Netflix, Hulu, Amazon video and all of the other streaming sites I use under my friends’ names, seeing the words “Netflix Original” starting to pop up on the cover of various titles in my queue had me worried. Rumors of Disney and other billion-dollar film companies pulling their content from Netflix was worrisome. What would we watch?

Each semester, students dedicate weekends to spending quality time with their parents, and both the University and Greek organizations host so-called parent’ weekends. Whether you are in Greek life or not, having your parents come to visit you in Madison can be one of the most exciting yet stressful weekends of the semester for students.

As February begins, the sea of pink and red hearts begins to take over every office in America. The words “love” and “Cupid” pop up everywhere you go. Step inside a Walgreens and you will be immediately alerted to the season with the chocolate hearts and pink cards found scattered on the shelves. Valentine’s Day is here yet again without any warning.

After starting the 2017 season undefeated, the No. 11 Wisconsin Badgers (11-9 Big Ten, 22-9 overall) started to struggle. But with postseason play came new beginnings and with it, another undefeated start.

Falling from No. 8 to No. 10, the Wisconsin Badgers (8-8 Big Ten, 17-8 overall) split their weekend series in Indiana as they swept the Indiana Hoosiers (1-15, 12-16) 3-0 before getting swept by the No. 25 Purdue Boilermakers (10-6, 20-7).

Contrary to Starbucks’ updated menu and the premature release of the holiday coffee cups, the next holiday to look forward to is not Christmas. Thanksgiving is sandwiched between the two highly-celebrated holidays of Halloween and Christmas, and therefore, is overlooked tremendously. However, Thanksgiving might be the holiday we all need the most.

After a heart-breaking five-set loss to Ohio State (6-8 Big Ten, 13-12 overall) on Friday, the No. 8 Wisconsin Badgers (7-7 Big Ten, 16-7 overall) were able to once again pull even in Big Ten play by beating University of Maryland (5-9 Big Ten, 16-10 overall) on Saturday 3-1.

According to the NCAA, the No. 8 Wisconsin Badgers (5-5 Big Ten, 14-5 overall) have endured the second-hardest schedule in the nation. And as the Badgers embark on the second half of their conference season, they are seeking significantly better results.

After an impressive previous week at the UW Fieldhouse that saw the No. 8 Wisconsin Badgers (5-5 Big Ten, 14-5 overall) defeat both the No. 6 Nebraska Cornhuskers (9-1, 16-4) and the Indiana Hoosiers (1-9, 12-10), the Badgers responded with a less convincing two-game stint this week. UW hit the road to play two more Big Ten competitors but could ultimately only split those contests.

Nothing quite beats the atmosphere of a gym that is hosting two rival teams. The energy is multiplied, the fans are buzzing and the hairs on the back of everyone’s necks are standing tall. The desire to dominate is quadrupled just by hearing the enemy’s name.

An undefeated nonconference season for the No. 7 Wisconsin Badgers (2-2 Big Ten, 11-2 overall) seemingly signaled a dominant start to Big Ten play. Losing only one set in the first nine matches, the Badgers had faced little adversity. The seniors and veteran players, however, know that success is not always guaranteed, especially when heading into the Big Ten. So far, that success has not been guaranteed, as Wisconsin’s perfect record has quickly become just .500 in conference play.

Often, the first few games of a team’s season can be an indicator of overall success. Win a few and the overall season outlook looks positive — drop a couple and that team puts themselves in a tough position to battle back for conference and potential playoff prowess. Still, success in the first couple matches of a season — even as many as the first nine — does not necessarily entail an elite finish.

After Friday night’s performance in the UW Fieldhouse, all four teams in the annual Big 10/ACC Challenge had limited time to rest up and prepare for their opponent Saturday night. But for the Wisconsin Badgers (2-0), the quick turnaround was no problem at all. Even with games on consecutive days, UW was able to sweep the North Carolina Tar Heels (0-2) 25-21, 25-17, 25-19, starting its season on a promising note.
