How many UW-Madison students got arrested at football games this year?

The start of the University of Wisconsin-Madison’s home football season brings time-honored traditions as students fill the stands with red and white.

But the most well-known Camp Randall tradition isn’t singing “Build Me Up Buttercup”, or jumping around — it’s Bucky Jail, the colloquial name for Camp Randall’s Police Center as described by the University of Wisconsin Police Department

For comparison, his season’s home opener against Penn State, the first in-person since 2018, had less citations and arrests than the 2018 home opener against Western Kentucky. This year’s home opener had 12 citations and 11 arrests, while the 2018 home opener had 20 citations and 19 arrests.

So, how many people went to Bucky Jail this home football season, and did the downward trend continue? Here’s how violations stacked up at Camp Randall.

The chart displays three graphs: A horizontal bar graph, a vertical bar graph and a circle line chart. Games are sorted by date and opposing team, and teams are color-coordinated. Axes are sorted by violation and game.

Each violation has one of two labels: CIE or E. CIE means citation issued and ejected, meaning all violations were violators received both a citation and were ejected from the game. The E designation pertains to violators that were only ejected from the game but did not receive a citation.

All data was synthesized from the UW-Madison Police Department.
