Restaurant workers were added to the DHS’s eligibility list. Over 21 percent of Wisconsinites have now received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.

Open vaccine spots available at Alliant Energy Center this week

Public Health officials in Dane County announced Monday morning that thousands of vaccine doses will be scheduled to arrive this week at the Alliant Energy Center in Madison.

Public Health Madison and Dane County tweeted Monday morning that many vaccine appointments have been opened up at the Alliant Energy community vaccination center in Madison, and that it was “very likely” people would be able to secure appointments if they took action now.

After fears of a fourth wave of COVID-19 cases arose last week, the seven-day average for cases in Wisconsin has once again started to decline. However in Illinois, Minnesota and Michigan, cases are continuing to rise — attributed partly to the spread of COVID-19 variants that haven’t made the same impact in Wisconsin.

PHMDC also tweeted Monday morning that there have been no clustered cases of COVID-19 in the last two weeks from long-term care or correctional facilities, which is the first time this has happened since data has been collected.

As cases go down and vaccination rates pick up, the loss of the Johnson and Johnson vaccine due to a precautionary pause has slowed the vaccination attempts by about 15,000 shots per day so far.

Currently, almost four million vaccination shots have been distributed and given to people in the state, according to the state DHS website

Over 2.3 million (about 40 percent) Wisconsin residents have received at least one dose of the vaccine, and over 1.6 million (about 28 percent) are fully vaccinated. Of those in Wisconsin who have completed their series, over 70 percent of the 65+ age group are fully vaccinated.

In Dane County alone, over half the population has already received at least one dose of the vaccine, while over 35 percent of the population is fully vaccinated.

Madisonians can sign up for a vaccination at Alliant Energy Center here.
