No country for recycled affirmative action pieces

In a world where too many anti-affirmative action pieces begin with an out-of-context quote from a civil rights leader—specifically Martin Luther King, Jr., and even more specifically “I Have a Dream”—I stand: one of the 1,209 Black-identified students on this campus of 43,275 enrolled in the university. That’s 2.8 percent; even broader, there are 6,243 identified minorities total, accounting for 14.4 percent of the University of Wisconsin-Madison. I stand as the only person of color on the Cardinal’s Editorial Board, and one of the few minorities on the entire staff.

Action Project: Open dialogue rids diversity of uncertainty

Allow me to begin with another healthy dose of honesty: Madison and race relations have not been going too hand-in-hand lately. In fact, this is an inherent understatement: A precedent has been set for the underrepresentation of people of color in the university and the city itself, while Black and brown people continue to systematically overpopulate the prison system in the county as well as the low-class/impoverished living conditions so subtly buried beneath the transfer points. (There have been several recent articles detailing these issues in full, notably from Rev. Alex Gee in The Cap Times last December.)

After effectively forging a career based on her persona based on her real life where she lives two lives, perhaps Miley grew frustrated with the pacifier of the public eye. Is it shameful? People grow up; discover their sexuality, act outlandish and irrational and uncaring of who sees.
