Chris Thile and Edgar Meyer stun Shannon Hall with genre defying virtuosity

Wednesday night, MacArthur fellows Chris Thile & Edgar Meyer graced the Wisconsin Union Theater in support of their new album Bass & Mandolin. It was a stunning technical performance, though often very dissonant and challenging to the listener. The audience was not at all put off by the complicated rhythms and shifting harmonic structures, instead meeting the performers with laughter, approval, and multiple standing ovations.

Record Routine: Most recent Jon Bellion mixtape falls flat

Jon Bellion’s new mixtape begins with a line stolen from Kanye West. Bellion thinks this is such an original move that he sings the same line over and over for almost a minute, stacking the contrived autotuned harmonies higher with each repetition. This is the absolute low point of the album, not counting the verse that follows immediately after, the song “Carry Your Throne”, the rap verse that is repeated twice in its entirety on “Luxury,” the single “Simple and Sweet,” and, debatably, every other point on the album.

'Good Will Hunting' a fitting and funny tribute to Robin Williams

In honor of World Suicide Prevention Day, the Majestic Theater hosted a Robin Williams tribute screening of the movie “Good Will Hunting” this past Thursday. The movie played as part of the Majestic’s Brew n’ View series, which as the name suggests provides a rare opportunity for die-hard movie fans to get soused while watching their favorite classic films on a big screen.
