Former head coach of the UW-Madison Men’s Football team and current Athletics Director Barry Alvarez recently lobbied at the state Capitol, to promote a bill exempting donations to the Badger Fund from taxes.

UW-Madison Athletics Director Barry Alvarez recently lobbied at the state Capitol, though it was not about the current state budget standoff.

Alvarez was lobbying in favor of a bill that would allow charitable donations to the Badger Fund to remain tax deductible, according to the Associated Press. The Badger Fund is the fundraising section of the UW-Madison Athletics Department.

State Rep. Phil Montgomery, R-Green Bay, is currently working on reintroducing the legislation, according to his spokesperson Kristin Ruesch. The bill was introduced to the state Assembly in 2005 but was not acted upon by the state Senate, Ruesch said.

Ruesch said Alvarez would be lobbying at the Capitol in the upcoming weeks, as Montgomery sends the bill to other lawmakers for co-sponsorship.
