At this point in the campaign, the Republican race has largely been decided. Nevertheless, one candidate on the republican side clearly stands out as preeminent.

As part of a campus that embraces the rational exchange of ideas and modern science, we cannot support Gov. Mike Huckabee.

Whether or not you like Sen.John McCain, he appears to have genuine convictions. Unlike his Republican colleagues, he has taken the high ground on issues such as immigration, global warming, torture, gay marriage and campaign finance.

With that, we offer our tempered endorsement to McCain—he is the best of the best of the Republicans.
