Man opens fire in lecture hall Thursday afternoon, shooting as many as 22 students before taking his own life.

A man opened fire on a large lecture hall at Northern Illinois University at approximately 3:00 p.m. Thursday leaving five dead and injuring the instructor and 15 students before committing suicide.

The man entered the classroom in Cole Hall and with a shotgun and two handguns, opened fire on students sitting near the front of the room, according to Justin Smith, online editor at the Northern Star, NIU’s student-run newspaper.
