ASM to lobby UW admins for study day

By: Erica Pelzek /The Daily Cardinal  - March 25, 2007

Each semester, the university designates a “study day” before final exams to allow students to review before exam week begins. However, according to the academic calendar and timetables, in every year since at least 2004 there has been at least one exam in one department on the designated day.

Following its goals for the spring 2007 semester, Associated Students of Madison will lobby UW-Madison’s University Committee Monday to fight for a full study day each semester.

ASM Chair Dylan Rath explained the University Committee of the Faculty Senate will likely pose many questions regarding the feasibility of a study day each semester.

According to an ASM statement released Friday, “ASM will justify the need for a full study day each semester, propose a change to the academic calendar and discuss the support received.”

The academic calendar, which is compiled years in advance, would have to undergo various changes to accommodate the full study day, according to Rath.

“Right now they have it planned up until 2011 and so they could make amendments to any of the years up to then,” Rath said. “And then in future years we would want them to put in that full study day.”

The meeting is Monday at 4 p.m. in 112 Bascom Hall.
