The UW-Madison College Republicans held an “Involvement Fair” Monday night at Grainger Hall detailing information of various organizations throughout the campus and the state.

“Our goal is to have a bigger presence on campus,” said Mattie Duppler, vice chair of UW-Madison College Republicans. “Being an overwhelming liberal campus, it is hard to show our presence.” The group had such a large turnout that some attendees were forced to stand during the meeting.

The large number of students in attendance could be due to the group’s attempt to recruit freshman.

“My goal is getting a lot of freshman involved since we are a minority on campus and [students] probably don’t know about us,” said freshman dorm liaison Alex Hall, the first to have the position.

Duppler said she hoped the meeting helped make people aware of other organizations and internships that are available by joining UW-Madison College Republicans.

Students for Prosperity, Republican Party of Dane County and Collegians for a Constructive Tomorrow joined the group for the fair.

The Roosevelt Institution, a non-partisan organization that recently formed a chapter on campus, wants students with various opinions to participate in the Roosevelt Energy conference—a national conference held in Madison Oct. 18 through Oct. 20.

UW-Madison students involved in particular Republican candidates’ student groups said they want to increase support for lesser-known candidates such as Fred Thompson or Mitt Romney.

“[The group’s goal is] also spreading the conservative ideals and helping support the candidates so people know they have a choice,” Hall said.
