It’s time for a female president—that was the message from student supporters at the Students for Hillary Clinton kickoff Thursday night at the Humanities building.

SFHC hosted guest speaker Dane County Executive Kathleen Falk who spoke to students about reasons why she has officially endorsed Clinton’s presidential bid.

“We couldn’t ask for a stronger, more experienced candidate for the state of Wisconsin and our country,” Falk said. “And isn’t it about time to put a woman in the office for presidency?”

Falk said as a woman candidate, Clinton is definitely more than qualified to be in the running.

“If she were a man, she would be in the good field of men running who I would be voting for,” Falk said.

The rally went on to highlight work Clinton has done in the past, and what she plans to do as president.

Clinton’s support for lower interest rates on student loans, her civil rights commitment and her plan to implement a new universal health care policy were just a few of the attributes mentioned.

Stephanie Biese, SFHC co-chair and UW-Madison senior, said she got involved in the Clinton campaign after taking on the role of student coordinator for the Tammy Baldwin campaign in 2006, inspiring her to further promote women in politics.

“I believe women bring a certain prospective to politics that isn’t being heard and needs to be heard,” Biese said.

Other speakers at the event included Pasha Sternberg, SFHC co-chair and UW-Madison senior, Heather Colburn, leader of Wisconsin for Hillary and Erica Buthmann, volunteer coordinator and UW-Madison senior.

Sternberg and Biese further encouraged students to get involved in the campaign for Hillary, stressing the earlier the better.
