Falk appologizes for 911 call incident

By: The Daily Cardinal /The Daily Cardinal  - May 6, 2008

Dane County Executive Kathleen Falk announced Monday she drafted a letter of apology to Brittany Zimmermann’s family on the mishandling of a 911 call made from the slain UW-Madison student’s cell phone.

Zimmermann, who was killed in her Doty Street apartment April 2, called 911 the day of her death but hung up, and the 911 dispatcher did not follow protocol by calling back.

“With the first phase of the 911 Center’s investigation now complete, the county executive feels that there should’ve been a call back to the cell phone,” Joshua Wescott, Falk’s spokesperson, said.

Falk will apologize to both Zimmermann’s family and her fiancée, who lived in the apartment and called police when he discovered her body. Wescott said Falk will also meet with Dane County 911 director Joe Norwick Tuesday to discuss recommendations for his department to reduce the chances of a similar incident occurring.
