The University of Wisconsin football team fell to No. 9 in the Associated Press poll this week, despite defeating The Citadel 45-31 Saturday at Camp Randall Stadium.

The Badgers went into the game versus upset-minded Citadel ranked No. 7 in the nation but were tied 21-21 with the Division 1-AA Bulldogs at halftime.

As the UW defense tightened in the second half, senior quarterback Tyler Donovan and sophomore running back P.J. Hill helped the Badgers pull away.

Hill rushed for 168 yards and scored five touchdowns—tying a school record—Saturday and was recognized for his performance by being nominated for National Player of the Week.Fans can vote for Hill until midnight Wednesday.

Still, the AP voters were apparently not impressed with Hill and the Badgers’ effort, as UW dropped in the polls for the second straight week. Leapfrogging the Badgers were Ohio State, which won big at the University of Washington, and the University of California, which easily defeated La. Tech.

The Badgers did, however, maintain their No. 7 ranking in the USA Today/Coaches Poll, in which they narrowly held off both California and Ohio State.

USC and LSU remain No. 1 and No. 2 in both polls, respectively. Penn State jumped into the top 10 in both polls this week after it beat Buffalo.

Up next for UW is the University of Iowa. It is the Big Ten Conference opener for both schools, and kickoff is scheduled for just after 7 p.m. Saturday.
