High school students to participate in Student Shadow Day

By: The Daily Cardinal /The Daily Cardinal  - April 17, 2008

The Associated Students of Madison Diversity Committee and Wisconsin Alumni Student Board will host the sixth annual Student Shadow Day on campus Thursday.

According to Laine Kalowski, an ASM Campus Relations Committee member, about 75 Madison-area high school students will pair up one-on-one with UW-Madison students for the day.

“In the morning, they’re paired with an individual student and they can go to classes and experience college,” she said.

“In the afternoon, we’re trying to promote access to higher education by showing them how to write a personal statement, how to get scholarships and financial aid—that is run by faculty and staff.”

Kalowski said the high school students are usually from under-represented backgrounds.

According to an ASM statement, the event is tailored to high school sophomores, juniors and seniors.

Kalowski said a link on the ASM website allowed current UW-Madison students the opportunity to volunteer.
