PRIMARY UPDATE: McCain, Obama win Wisconsin primary

Both McCain and Obama sustained their momentum in Wisconsin Tuesday, with McCain edging closer to the 1,191 delegates he needs to secure the Republican nomination and Obama winning his ninth straight Democratic contest.

With 85 percent of Wisconsin reporting, Obama held a 58 to 41-percent advantage over Hillary Clinton. McCain held a 54 to 37-percent advantage over Mike Huckabee.

Although cold temperatures kept turnout from reaching expected levels, UW-Madison student turnout was still the highest in decades.

Dane County Chief Clerk Bob Ohlsen said turnout was around 25-30 percent at 6 p.m., though not all wards had reported fully.

This is similar to projections from the state Government Accountability Board, which said turnout statewide would be close to 35 percent, the highest since 1988.
