Man with gun reported near Union South has left the campus area

A sexual assault — which reportedly occurred last Thursday — was reported to UW-Madison Monday.

A man with a gun has been reported near Union South after an armed robbery was reported in the area, according to a UW-Madison WiscAlert.

According to the alert, the suspect was seen near University and Randall Avenue fleeing toward Union South. The suspect is described as a male wearing dark skinny jeans, a red hooded shirt, a ski mask and a scarf. He is approximately six feet tall.

The UW-Madison Police Department instructed students to avoid the area and seek a safe location. Those inside Union South were told to remain in the building, where there were multiple officers maintaining security.

A WiscAlert issued at 8:54 p.m. said it is believed the suspect has left the area and that there is “no longer a threat to the UW campus at this time.”

The Madison Police Department is investigating the incident.
