UW System president to students: 'Wisconsin really needs you'

Ray Cross, president of the UW System, highlighted the value of a college degree, especially one from UW, in his blog.

“The value of the UW System education is undeniable,” wrote Cross.

He cited several reasons for students to consider getting an education through the UW System. Besides already having the lowest tuition rates in the Midwest, Cross said the UW System aims to make college more affordable in the future as well as offering more college-credit options for high school students.

“To help our families, we included proposals in our budget request to reduce the time it takes to graduate—the most important factor in keeping college affordable,” Cross said.

Cross also pointed out that a UW System degree is valuable because of its world-class education and the post-college career success associated with it. He said that the UW System was ranked 13th in Reuters’ list of schools, “doing the most to advance science, invent new technologies and help drive the global economy.”

“Our alumni tell us their UW degree has opened doors in their career that would not have been possible otherwise,” Cross said.
