Badgers predicted to stifle Iowa, reclaim Heartland Trophy

Andrew Tucker, football feature writer

31-7 Wisconsin

Iowa has proven this year that it isn’t very good. Losing to NDSU isn’t bad, but barely beating Rutgers certainly is. Despite the game being in Iowa City, I think Wisconsin rolls.

Upset Pick: Memphis over No. 24 Navy

Memphis’ only loss is to Ole Miss, who, while underperforming, is still a pretty good team. Navy, on the other hand, screams overrated to me, with a loss to Air Force on its record.

Highest scoring game of the week: TCU vs. WVU

Both of these teams are perennially known for their spread offenses and poor defenses, so it would come as no surprise if this is a 55-50 type of a shootout.

Thomas Valtin-Erwin, Sports Editor

24-3 Wisconsin

After an incredible 2015 campaign, Iowa is flat-out bad this year. The Badgers have shown that they can go to toe-to-toe with the best teams in the country, which Iowa certainly isn’t.

Upset pick: UCLA over No. 19 Utah

The Utes squeaked past BYU in week 2 and lost to another underrated team from California three weeks later. UCLA has four losses to its name, so the Bruins are flying under the radar. They took No. 6 Texas A&M to overtime in their opener, and should turn Utah’s season on its head.

Highest scoring game of the week: Oregon at Cal

A night game between two evenly-matched teams in the same time zone with great offenses and terrible defenses? Yes, please. This feels like a 58-52 sort of game.

Lorin Cox, football beat writer

Wisconsin 31, Iowa 6

This one won’t feel like the Wisconsin-Iowa games of recent years. The Badgers are frustrated and hungry to taste victory again, and the Hawkeyes won’t stand in their way.

Upset Pick: TCU over No. 12 WVU

The Horned Frogs have played to the level of their opponent this season for better or for worse, and they have an opportunity to get into a shootout with the Mountaineers, who are one of the least impressive undefeated teams left.

Highest Scoring Game: No. 16 Oklahoma vs Texas Tech

The Sooners’ defense hasn’t been able to hold many opponents down, getting into a number of shootouts this season. This week they’re facing the fifth-highest scoring offense this season in Texas Tech. The Red Raiders are coming off of an embarrassing loss to West Virginia, and they should come out firing at home.
