Greater Madison Jazz Consortium to launch spring series InDIGenous

The Greater Madison Jazz Consortium announced Monday its plans for its third annual spring concert series entitled InDIGenous.

InDIGenous will take place on three Friday evenings this spring, according to a City of Madison press release.

The Alison Margaret Jazz Quintet will perform May 13, with a featured live vocalist, keyboardist, saxophonist, upright bassist and drummer. The performance will include newly written lyrics to instrumental compositions from local pianist Paul Hastil.

The Ben Ferris Quintet will debut a new series of compositions May 27 inspired by world events, including gun violence, information access and environmental issues.

To close the spring series June 10, the Organic Quintet will perform a tribute to the 1960s Hammond B3 Organ, written and composed by UW Latin Jazz Ensemble Director Eric Sieveland.

The InDIGenous series occurs twice a year, alternating its location from the Madison Central Library in the spring and the Memorial Union Fredric March Play Circle in the fall.

“At Madison Public Library we have a commitment to promote local music,” said music librarian Guy Hankel in the release. “By leveraging our resources to bring live jazz to a diverse audience, we not only provide free access to the arts, but also foster new connections between the creative sector and the broader community.”

The InDIGenous series is scheduled to start May 13 at the Madison Central Library on the 200 block of West Mifflin Street.
