Teenager visiting for state wrestling tournament assaulted near campus

A teenager visiting Madison for the Individual State Wrestling Tournament was assaulted early Sunday morning by a group of six to eight men, according to a Madison Police Department incident report.

The victim, a 17-year-old from Pulaski, was walking behind a group of friends on the 500 block of Conklin Place at approximately 1:50 a.m. when the assault took place.

He told police several vehicles drove toward him and he put out his hand to stop them. The lead car stopped inches from him, and he placed his hand on the car. At this point, the men in the vehicles proceeded to leave their cars and assault the teenager.

The victim said that members of the group punched him several times and stomped on his head. He was taken to the hospital, where his head injuries required stitches.

The perpetrators were described as black males, some driving a white Dodge Intrepid and others a blue Dodge Grand Caravan.
