Team suspends Tucker from play

Junior tight end and UW-Madison academic senior Robert Tucker was suspended from the football team indefinitely as a result of an incident in which he was involved at the Kollege Klub, 529 Lake St., Saturday night. He was taken into custody by police, Head Coach Barry Alvarez said in a statement Monday.

\I spoke with Rob and he apologized for not adhering to our recent re-emphasis on proper conduct,"" Alvarez said. ""Our players understand the standards they are expected to follow, particularly with the importance we have placed on suitable behavior.""

Police responded shortly after 11:30 p.m. Saturday night when Tucker was asked to leave the bar after causing a disturbance and throwing a can of chewing tobacco at a KK employee on the way out, according to a Madison Police Department report.

After struggling with police and being taken into custody, Tucker proceeded to kick out the back door window of the squad car. He was later taken to the Dane County Jail.

The event is another in a sequence involving UW-Madison football players'a trend that the football coaching staff hopes to reverse through extra emphasis of ""appropriate off-the-field"" conduct, according to Alvarez.

Tucker also issued an apology after Saturday's altercation.

""I didn't behave in the way the coaching staff has instructed us to,"" he said. ""I accept Coach Alvarez's suspension and I want to apologize to my teammates and coaches for causing this distraction.\
