UWPD officer draws taser, arrests two at Gordon Commons

By: Quinn Craugh /The Daily Cardinal  - September 11, 2007

The University of Wisconsin Police Department arrested two men outside Gordon Commons for allegedly battering and yelling racial slurs at two victims early Sunday morning.

According to a police report, UWPD officers responded to a fight outside Gordon Commons involving several people at 3:55 a.m. Sunday. UWPD Sgt. Michael Newton made contact with one of the suspects, Jesse Raymond of Madison. Raymond reportedly became resistant and tried to disarm an officer of his taser.

Officers not only arrested Jesse Raymond, but also apprehended his brother Travis. Both were tentatively charged with disorderly conduct with a “hate crime enhancer” and were taken to Dane County Jail. The victims were not seriously injured, but one of the victims had his wallet stolen.

UWPD said two other suspects fled and an investigation into the situation is ongoing.
