By: Abby Sears /The Daily Cardinal  - November 20, 2007

The Madison Police Department responded to a report of an armed robbery Monday morning from the Badger Campus Credit Union, formerly the UW Employee’s Credit Union, after several separate robberies had been reported the previous week.

According to Madison police, the suspect entered the credit union, located at the corner of Mills and Spring Streets, around 7:15 a.m. He said that he was carrying a gun and demanded cash. Police described the suspect as an African American male, 6’0” and 200 pounds. He was carrying a green backpack and wearing a black cap. Police are still looking for the suspect who fled the scene by bicycle.

The credit union robbery was called in following several separate armed robberies over the previous week.

According to police, the BP Gas Station at 4222 E. Washington Ave. was robbed at knifepoint early Saturday morning. The male suspect, who remains at large, removed cash from the register and fled the scene in a mini-van.

In an unrelated incident on the 2500 block of E. Mifflin Street around 6 a.m. Sunday morning, police reported that a 59-year-old man was robbed at gunpoint in a parking lot.

The suspect asked the victim for change and a cigarette, then pulled out a handgun and ordered the man to hand over his wallet. According to police, when the suspect discovered the wallet was empty, he returned it and fled the scene.
